BIKE TRAILS THROUGHOUT SEBASTOPOL...

Imagine not having to get in your car to make the short trip downtown.  Now, can you imagine getting a bit more exercise?  And, picture yourself trying to keep your ice cream from melting on your way home after a trip to Screaming Mimis while you saunter along a trail that reveals the sweeping vistas of the Laguna de Santa Rosa.

And then there's the safety issue?

Sebastopol Trailmakers has a bike/pedestrian trail system on the drawing board that would do just that while connecting the western end of Sebastopol with the southern end.

Here is a series of three videos explaining exactly how it works (see anyone you know?):

There's also a website you can visit for more information:

So, watch the videos and contact our City Council to let them know what you think.  USE YOUR VOICE TO GET INVOLVED.  We've made it easy.  Just cut and paste the emails below and urge the City Council to take the first step in approving these trails:

CALLING ALL ARTISTS (OR NON-ARTISTS)...

Ever feel like taking a can of paint and covering a street with it?  No?  Well, here's your chance anyway.  Cittaslow (again) has determined the winners of the design contest to paint McKinley Street and they want to include the community.  THAT'S YOU!

Please read…

Reply to this email so we know how many to expect.  We will send you one more email before the big date if you sign up.  No experience needed.  Fun for everyone! Mention what you'd like to do and when in your email. No commitment, but we'd like to get an idea of how many want to do what and when they might come.

The  Sebastopol Village Building Convergence (VBC), is a delightful 10 day community series of events and projects to be held September 12-21, 2014 at multiple venues around Sebastopol.

Want to paint the street?
Cittaslow Sebastopol's VBC project is to paint murals on McKinley Street connecting Main Street and The Barlow.  Reply to this email if you'd like to help make a stronger connection between the Barlow and Main Street by painting Spirit Bird and Spirit Canine along McKinley Street.  Everyone can help - paint by numbers!

Traveling between the two we will also paint salmon swimming upstream (designed by Karen Lockert) and wildlife paw prints walking along the bank (designed by Penny Bentley).

The whole 10 days will be filled with activity - it's like a studio tour (e.g., Art Trails), but instead of artist workshops, you can tour and help build community projects:
  • Paint a mural - Sept. 13 & 14
  • Plant a garden
  • Build a cobb bus stop

Here are some of the many ways you can join the fun:

Saturday, Sept. 13 - starting at about 11:00 to 5:00
  • Help close and clean the street.
  • Help draw out the chalk outlines using a big grid -artists especially needed for this!
  • Help mix paint colors.
  • Paint inside the lines once the lines are drawn.
  • Supervise kids doing fun painting projects.
  • Volunteer in our Cittaslow Sebastopol booth signing folks up and giving out food. (Please specify if you would like to do this so we can assign you a time slot.)
  • Cheer folks on from the sidelines!
Sunday, Sept. 14 - starting at about 10:00 to 5:00
  • More painting to finish up two coats on all the art!
  • Many of the things listed under Saturday.
There will be music and food to keep you inspired and fueled!
* Saturday hear live music by Whitebear.
* Sunday hear and see the Sonoma County Taiko Drummers perform.

What to bring:
A refillable water bottle!
Gloves, rags, paint brush if you wish (not required)
